Friends for over 20 years, Don G and Zamunda recently recorded their first song together. ‘Don’t Underestimate’ is the title of that track which is produced by Conroy Smith for Love Star Music.
Released on October 9, the song was recorded in Luxembourg where Don G has lived for almost 10 years. The two artists also filmed a video to underscore ‘Don’t Underestimate’s message of not taking people for granted.
Because he lives in Europe, and Zamunda has a following on the continent, Don G believes the collaboration is mutually beneficial.
“It’s more than beneficial for me as it helps to build up my musical catalog and reaches a wider fan base. It’s my first official collaboration with a veteran in the reggae industry and it means a lot to me,” he said.
‘Don’t Understimate’ is Don G’s latest song for Love Star Music, a Jamaican company based in New York City. Their previous releases are ‘Toxic’ and ‘Internal Fire’.
Don G is from Linstead, a market town in St. Catherine parish. Zamunda hails from neighboring St. Ann, a lush parish where legends like Bob Marley and Burning Spear are from.
They first met in 2003 when both entered the Reggae Trail Talent Search, which was broadcast on national television.
‘Don’t Underestimate’ was the idea of DJ King Kenny, a sound system selector from Germany. He suggested Don G and Zamunda record a song together, given the similarity of their voices.
“It was at the time Zamunda was coming to Europe to do a festival tour. I went to Paris to pick him up and he stayed for some days at my apartment in Luxembourg. The following day, we went to the recording studio and recorded the vocals,” Don G recalled.
