Growing up in a Christian home, Damion “Damiedon” Hawthorne never shies from acknowledging the importance of faith in his life. He expresses that on ‘Yahweh (Make A Way’), his latest song, which is produced by his brother, Andre “Dretegs” Hawthorne.
While it was recently released, Damiedon said the track, “has been in my heart for years.” He wanted to make a bold statement about the impact God has on daily life.
“‘Yahweh’ is about the unwavering presence of God in our lives, especially in times of struggle and doubt. The song conveys that no matter how many obstacles we face, or how harshly we are criticized or despised by others, we never fall to the ground because we are always in God’s hands. It’s a declaration that God, or Yahweh, is the one who always makes a way for us, ensuring that we are never abandoned,” he stated.
This is Damiedon’s first song for 2024. In December, 2023, he shared the mic with Flourgon and Brotha George on ‘Cast The First Stone’, a rocking gospel song that heard him showing off his deejay skills.
Damiedon is a member of the Hawthorne family, operators of the popular Golden Krust Caribbean Bakery, founded by his uncle Lowell. His parents, Leroy and Herma Hawthorne, are pastors at Bible Truth Church of God International in the Bronx.
“Being a pastor’s kid, I’ve grown up surrounded by the teachings of faith, which have shaped my character and outlook. Faith is not just something I practice; it’s embedded in every part of who I am. It’s the force that keeps me grounded, especially in the music industry, where criticism and challenges are constant,” Damiedon explained. “Through my music, like in ‘Yahweh’, I’m expressing that faith and hope that has carried me through the highs and lows. This song is a testament to the belief that no matter how tough things get, Yahweh never lets us fall but instead holds us securely in His hands.”
