Courtney John Brings Soulful Reggae Vibes to Toronto

Toronto’s music and arts scene is about to get a soulful infusion of reggae and creativity. On Friday, September 5, from 5:00 to 8:00 PM, 412 Studios (412 Richmond St E, Toronto, ON) will come alive with Cool Me Down—an evening of music, art, and unforgettable vibes. Hosted by Calabash Productions Inc, the event features internationally acclaimed reggae artist Courtney John, alongside live visual artistry by the talented Tyler Sewell.

Known as the “lovers rocker,” Courtney John is one of those rare artists whose music feels timeless yet fresh. With a falsetto that resonates with romance and an energy that transcends borders, his songs celebrate love, life, relationships, and good times. Women, especially, have long been captivated by his sound, but his universal appeal makes him a cherished figure across audiences worldwide.

Born in St. Andrew, Jamaica, and raised in Annotto Bay, St. Mary, Courtney John was destined for music. Coming from a family steeped in sound—his uncles include Winston and reggae legend Beres Hammond—he penned and performed his first song at just twelve years old. Influenced by icons like Lionel Richie, Stevie Wonder, Slim Smith, Eddie Kendricks, and Curtis Mayfield, his artistry bridges generations.

Courtney John’s career has been marked by innovation and recognition. From recording for producers such as X-Terminator, Fat Eyes, Taxi, and Harmony House, to penning and producing hits for global stars like Nelly Furtado and Michael Franti, as well as reggae greats like Luciano, Joseph Hill, Beres Hammond, and Marcia Griffiths, his work speaks for itself. In 2007, Jamaica’s Irie FM named him Best Male Artist, and his album Unselfish was celebrated as Best Album of the Year.

Now, with his latest single “Cool Me Down,” Courtney John is once again redefining reggae for a new generation. The track, already earning international acclaim, showcases his willingness to push boundaries while staying rooted in soulful storytelling. As he explains, “The value of learning is the beauty to expand from exploring.”

At 412 Studios, fans can expect a night where music and art collide. While Courtney John’s smooth voice fills the room, Tyler Sewell will create live artwork that reflects the energy of the performance, adding a visual rhythm to the soundscape. Whether you want to relax, dance, or simply soak in the culture, Cool Me Down promises an atmosphere of good vibes, great company, and lasting memories.
