Charly Black Honoured by City of Brampton for Musical Contributions

Dancehall star Charly Black has been formally recognized by the City of Brampton for his significant contributions to music and culture. The Trelawny-born artiste, who enjoys a strong following across North America, was presented with an honorary certificate by Mayor Patrick Brown during a special ceremony held on Friday, April 1, at Brampton City Hall. The event was attended by city officials and staff, celebrating the global impact of his work.

“It’s a great feeling to receive this award because it shows that the work I put in over the years is being appreciated globally,” said a grateful Charly Black.

The recognition came just ahead of the deejay’s Charly Black Birthday Carnival, held at the Mystic Lounge in Brampton. The event featured high-energy performances by Skinny Fabulous, Neeqah, and Motto, adding to the festive weekend.

Reflecting on his bond with Brampton, the 45-year-old artiste shared, “The entire city hall family love my music, and we have this special thing going on. That’s why they came out with such great energy to come and celebrate with me another milestone on Earth.”

Mayor Brown praised the global reach and local influence of the Gyal You a Party Animal” hitmaker, stating, “We are honoured to acknowledge his talent and cultural influence. Charly Black’s music has not only resonated globally but has also deeply impacted our local community here in Brampton.”

The celebration follows Charly Black’s birthday on April 5, which he marked with a sold-out performance at Unstoppable Lounge in Carey Park, Trelawny. Looking ahead, the platinum and diamond-selling artiste is focused on completing his upcoming album, set for release this summer.
