Join us at the Miss Lou Learning Centre for an engaging workshop led by Jamaican Canadian guitarist Maurice Gordon and educator Marsha Laylor. This interactive session will delve into Miss Lou’s remarkable ability to turn everyday Jamaican experiences into captivating poetry filled with humor and wisdom. Participants will have the opportunity to explore spoken word, music, and drama, all inspired by Miss Lou’s distinctive storytelling style.
5:30 PM – 6:30 PM – Tour: “Miss Lou Education and Learning Centre”
After the workshop, join Marsha Laylor for an exclusive tour of the Miss Lou Education and Learning Centre. The tour will provide a deeper understanding of Miss Lou’s work in preserving Jamaican patois and folklore, showcasing her lasting impact on Jamaican culture.
7:00 PM – Show: “Celebrating Miss Lou: A Life of Poetry, Music, and Love”
The day concludes with a vibrant performance at the Lakeside Terrace. Maurice Gordon’s band, Pimento Groove, will be joined by guest singer Mel Dube and poet Mello Ayo for a night of music, poetry, and storytelling, all inspired by Miss Lou’s contributions to Jamaican culture. This performance promises an evening filled with laughter, learning, and love as we honor a beloved cultural icon.
