In the wake of the devastating Category 4 Hurricane Beryl, which struck Jamaica on July 3, 2024, causing significant damage and loss of life, the Jamaican Canadian community is rallying together to provide much-needed support. A benefit concert, under the distinguished patronage of Her Excellency Marsha Coore-Lobban, High Commissioner of Jamaica to Canada, will be held to raise funds for those most impacted by the disaster.

The concert, organized by the Jamaica Diaspora and Friends of Jamaica in Canada, is set to feature a stellar lineup of Canada’s top reggae and dancehall artists, comedians, MCs, and sound selectors. Headlining the event will be Canada’s reggae queen Nana McLean, along with JUNO award winners Exco Levi, Kirk Diamond, and Kairo McLean. Other star performers include Tony Anthony, Steve Knight, Eyesus, Tonya P, Tréson, Tiffanie Malvo, Zackious Cooper, Latoya Mullings, Blk Orchid, Com4th, Marcia Brown, Naggo Morris, Danae Peart, Chris Hayles, Joshua Lucas, and DJ Corey.

This fundraising initiative is being spearheaded by several community organizations and businesses, including the Global Jamaica Diaspora Council Canada (GJDC), Global Jamaica Diaspora Youth Council (GJDYC), Jamaican Canadian Association, the Alliance of Jamaican Alumni Associations, Big 7 Promotions, Caribbean Queen Jerk, and Reggae North.

The Jamaican Canadian community has a storied history of coming together in times of crisis, and this relief concert is expected to continue that tradition. The organizers aim to raise over $10,000 CAD, which will be donated to the Office of Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Management in Jamaica to assist with recovery efforts in the hardest-hit parishes of Clarendon, St. Elizabeth, and Manchester.

The organisers are calling on everyone to join them in this fundraising effort, because together they believe we can make a significant impact and help our brothers and sisters in Jamaica rebuild their lives.

In addition to live performances, food and drinks will be available for purchase. Donations will be accepted until July 27, 2024, ensuring that those who cannot attend the concert still have the opportunity to contribute to the relief efforts.
