British Love Spice’s So Mi Like It

Often cited for her controversial statements and outfits, dancehall diva Spice says the use of her song, ‘So Mi Like It’, in television shows and movies, is proof her music has staying power.

Produced by Ainsley “Notnice” Morris, the song has been picked up for season two of ‘Boarders’, the hit British comedy-drama. ‘So, Mi Like It’ is from ‘10’, Spice’s Grammy-nominated album, released in 2014 by VP Records.

“This not only made me feel proud, but I am also proud of my genre, my country and the influence we have on the rest of the world. ‘So Mi Like It’ is the most streamed solo song by a Jamaican female dancehall artist on Spotify, having over 93 million streams, 129 million views on YouTube and a total of two music certifications,” said Spice.

Last August, ‘So Mi Like It’ was certified silver by the British Phonographic Industry for sales of over 200,000 units in the United Kingdom. The up-tempo track has also featured in Netflix’s ‘Dance 100’, and ‘Dreaming Whilst Black’.

Spice performed ‘So Mi Like It’ during her performance at the MOBO Awards in Newcastle, England in early February.

‘Boarders’, which focuses on five black teenagers who attend high-brow St. Gilbert’s boarding school in the UK, airs on BBC Three.

The 42-year-old Spice is a protege of Vybz Kartel with whom she did ‘Ramping Shop’, a 2009 hit song banned in Jamaica for its explicit lyrics. Fans in North America know her for appearing in the hit reality television series, ‘Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta’, which aired on VH1.
