Brandon Rootz Seizes the Opening

The past two years has seen American singer Brandon Rootz work with some of the biggest names in reggae — from Luciano to guitarist Earl “Chinna” Smith and producer Lloyd “King Jammy” James.

For the past month, the California-born artist has been on the road with Barrington Levy. He is the opening act for the legendary singer’s ‘A Fi Yuh’ tour of the United States.  Brandon Rootz does a half-hour set that comprises songs he recorded in Jamaica.

“My performance is 30 minutes. I perform all my original songs that will be on my new album that I will finish in Tuff Gong studios in Kingston. Some of the songs I perform in my set are ‘Blue Mountains’, ‘Without the Greed’, ‘Picture Frame’, ‘Only You’, ‘The Goblin’, and ‘House of A Rasta Man’,” he disclosed.

Touring with Levy is a major career boost for Brandon Rootz who grew up in Northern California admiring reggae artists like Levy and Bob Marley. He has visited Jamaica regularly since 2023, recording songs with top musicians such as Smith, drummer Kirk Bennett and saxophonist Dean Fraser.

“This tour has already opened many doors for my career. There are many opportunities for future tours and bookings coming my way from this tour. The sky is the limit,” said Brandon Rootz.

One of the most influential vocalists in reggae, Levy is best known for songs such as ‘Under me Sensi’, ‘Here I Come’ and ‘Black Roses’. Currently promoting songs like ‘A Fi Yuh’, he opened the tour on June 1 in Tucson, Arizona and is scheduled to close on September 14 in Chicago.
