Binghi Blaze Salutes the Diamonds

Fans of The Mighty Diamonds will pay respect to the legendary roots-reggae trio on April 4 during ‘Tribute to Their Legacy’, an event scheduled for Swift River Center in Rosedale, New York.

The event, organized by the Caribbean American Society Of New York, features several artists including Binghi Blaze, a longtime admirer of the group.  The Florida-based singer told this column that he is honored to acknowledge the contribution of Judge, Bunny and Tabby who formed The Mighty Diamonds in Trench Town, Kingston in 1969.

“These men are foundation Rasta, roots-reggae artists and have accomplished a lot. They deliver the positive vibration music across the globe, so it’s a great honor to be a part of celebrating their legacy and add to what they’ve done,” said Binghi Blaze.

He pointed to ‘The Right Time Come’ and ‘Them Never Love Poor Marcus’ as his favourite songs by The Mighty Diamonds. Both were recorded at Channel One in the mid-1970s. Their black conscious themes resonated with many Jamaican youths including Binghi Blaze, who was raised in s Christian home in rural Manchester parish.

‘Tribute To Their Legacy’ will showcase the trio’s extensive catalog as well as videos, speeches from family and artists. Derrick Barnett and the Statement Band, and LeRoy Graham Jr and The True Tribute All Stars, are also slated to perform.

Tabby Diamond was murdered in front of his home in Kingston on March 29, 2022. He was 67. Three days later, Bunny Diamond, who had been ailing since suffering a stroke in 2015, died at age 70. Lloyd ‘Judge Diamond’ Ferguson is the sole survivor of the original group.
