Ammoye Rising on the Global Stage

In the past few years, Canadian reggae artist Ammoye has taken the international music scene by storm, gracing stages in Brazil, the USA, South Africa, and Germany. Her musical journey reached new heights in 2024, when she made history at festivals in Canada that had never had a reggae act. Known as the “Reggae Princess,” Ammoye is rapidly gaining recognition for her authentic sound and electrifying performances.

Ammoye’s performances on a global stage have been transformative, offering her opportunities to connect with diverse audiences worldwide. These experiences are expanding her fan base and establishing her as a force to be reckoned with in reggae music. “My goal is to create and establish a worldwide audience and fan base of like-minded people who resonate with my works,” Ammoye explains. “I intend to do this by remaining true to who I am as an authentic artist while staying relevant and accessible to these markets at home and abroad.”

Her journey has not been without challenges. Though Ammoye has been nominated seven times for the Best Reggae Recording category at the JUNO Awards, she has yet to take home the trophy. Despite this, her attitude remains nothing short of inspiring. “It is an honor to be acknowledged by the JUNO Awards,” Ammoye reflects. “For me, being in the room amongst peers I admire is a win in itself, providing opportunities to connect and collaborate.” Her humility and grace have endeared her to fans and fellow artists alike.

While the JUNO win remains elusive, Ammoye recently took home the Female Artist of the Year award at the Reggae North Music Awards, an accolade she holds close to her heart. “This award is from my reggae community, and it means more than anyone realizes,” she shares with pride. The recognition from her peers further solidifies her status as one of reggae’s rising stars.

Reggae music may have its roots in Jamaica, but Ammoye’s Canadian experience has influenced her sound, adding new dimensions to her artistry. “Reggae has become worldwide. It’s been embraced in every country across the globe,” she says. Living in Canada has exposed her to a variety of genres and cultures, helping her break out of the traditional reggae box and create music that’s multicultural and multidimensional.

Touring globally has only confirmed for Ammoye that her message is resonating beyond borders. Her performances in countries like Brazil, South Africa, and Serbia have left lasting impressions. She recalls walking around the grounds in Brazil after a performance, where fans expressed their amazement that she wasn’t more widely known. “One of them said to me, ‘You should be on the Grammy stage, girl,’” Ammoye says, smiling. In South Africa, the energy was just as vibrant, with fans urging her to move to Cape Town. Her experience performing in Serbia at 5 a.m. was equally humbling, as the crowd waited patiently for her and stayed engaged throughout her set.

Ammoye’s songwriting process is a spiritual journey, and she often writes in nature, connecting with large bodies of water or grounding herself on the grass. “I invite my Higher Self and Angel guides to come in and create with me,” she explains, noting that her creative flow comes from a deeply spiritual place. This ritual ensures that her music resonates with her audience, delivering messages of empowerment, unity, and joy.

Empowerment, equality, and unity consciousness are central themes in Ammoye’s music. She believes that music has the power to awaken and uplift people, encouraging them to live a life of purpose and joy. Her mission is to create songs that activate her listeners, helping them connect with their inner strength and truths. “My intent is to shake up and wake up my audience in the most gentle and respectful way,” Ammoye says. Her music is more than entertainment; it’s a call to action for a more conscious and united world.

As Ammoye continues to evolve as an artist, she is embarking on exciting new projects and collaborations. Her upcoming album, The Shift,’ will showcase collaborations with other artists, expanding her musical horizons even further. She’s also working on a theater project, My Reggae Story,’ which will honor female reggae legends who paved the way for artists like her. Ammoye’s upcoming tours and projects promise even more growth, and she is excited about what the future holds. “The best is yet to come,” she says enthusiastically.

With a heart full of gratitude for her supporters and a vision for the future of reggae, Ammoye is on an unstoppable journey. Her global presence, soulful music, and authentic artistry are paving the way for a new era in reggae music—one that celebrates unity, empowerment, and the universal language of love. Keep on “reggae rocking” with Ammoye, because her story is just beginning.
