Aidonia Promises New Album, Great Songs in 2024

Dancehall hitmaker Aidonia has tipped his hat to loyal fans who have stuck with him over his nearly two decades in the business. The Breeze hitmaker, who is currently on daddy duties following the birth of his newborn son last Monday, has promised them a mega project in the new year.

“Thanks for sticking and staying with me for 18 years,” Aidonia said in an interview with The Star at Yush, a ’90s throwback dancehall party held last Saturday at the Ranny Williams Entertainment Centre in St Andrew.

The entertainer released a project titled ‘Occupied Mind’ on December 1, and has promised that “next year, [an] album and a whole heap of greater music a fawud”.

Aidonia last month announced that he would be taking a hiatus from recording music to focus on family and the birth of his child. The release of ‘Occupied Mind’, a 23-track collection, came in the aftermath of the passing of his son, Khalif Lawrence, who died last December following a three-year battle with cancer. Aidonia said that having a strong support system has been key in helping his family to deal with the loss.

“It’s definitely hard but we have a strong support system, a good family, friends and supporters that keep us going. My parents are Christians, so our church family has prayed with and for us a lot. It’s hard, but when the support system is there, it makes it a bit easier,” the entertainer said.

Meanwhile, Aidonia said his upcoming album “will be totally different from” his Occupied Mind project. “Everyone’s going to see a different side of Aidonia, with a combination of reggae, collabs with legends and the young yute dem weh a do good.”

At Yush last Saturday, the superstar artiste treated patrons to a scintillating performance as he reeled of an impressive list of throwback hits from his catalogue. The entertainer told The Star that it was not easy selecting the songs for his performance.

“It was hard choosing songs because we’ve been here from 2005, so there was a lot of back and forth between [me and] the management team. In the end, we chose the right songs,” he said.
