A Special November for Yannick Paul

With November being his birth month, Yannick Paul looks forward to celebrating his special day. It also marked a turning point in his life 10 years ago and is the title of his latest song.

The self-produced ‘November’ reflects on a dark episode in late 2023 that not only challenged his Christian faith, but also Yannick Paul’s sanity. He credits the spirituality he found a decade ago for his recovery.

“In 2023, around my birthday I fell into a deep depression, something that hasn’t hit that hard since 2014. On my birthday in 2014, I performed at a small event in Brooklyn (New York) and at that time I was singing about my newfound faith in Christ, while battling thoughts of suicide,” Paul disclosed. “The song is a reflection of my battle in 2014 and 2023 yet highlighting the fact that the Lord Jesus has rescued me from taking my own life due to His own resurrection and life in me.”

A rapper/deejay strongly influenced in his youth by Vybz Kartel, Yannick Paul has lived in the United States since 2004. He is originally from Payne Land, a rugged community in Kingston, Jamaica’s capital.
He opens about some of his darkest moments in ‘November’, which helped purge his soul.

“I’ve never spoken about this part of my life this openly and this real before. I wrote the song in November of 2023, in the middle of feeling dark and useless. I wrote this song when I felt like God had abandoned me and hasn’t forgiven me of past sins. This song has helped me to really understand the love God has for me, and the love that my loved ones have for me in Christ Jesus,” said Paul.
