A roots artist to the core, Rasta Lightening not only writes songs, he sings them from the heart. That is what he did for ‘The Road we Choose’, his latest single which was released on July 22. The diminutive vocalist, who lives in South Florida, also produced the song. He said it is based on “things dat mi go through.”
Rasta Lightening added that he used his positive outlook on life as a guide for ‘The Road we Choose’. That made composing it even easier.
“It’s calling for people to make good choices… some people make bad choices and then it can affect their lives,” he said.
Rasta Lightening launched his recording career nine years ago, but prior to that, toured the United States and Europe. Being from Spanish Town, Jamaica’s first capital, he was raised around music, as that community has a rich sound system culture.
Touring and performing to diverse audiences helped enhance his craft.
“My sound is part of the reggae genre, but with a different style,” he said. “My style is totally different from others, but still in the form of reggae.”
Like many roots-reggae acts, Rasta Lightening is strongly influenced by the masters, such as Bob Marley and Mykal Rose. Since launching his recording career, he has released songs such as ‘Magga Dog’ and ‘Love of Hispanic Majesty’.
