For most of his career, Traz Di Jennik has recorded good vibes party songs, but with another year of frightening homicides in his native Jamaica, he decided to address the dilemma with ‘Stop Di Crime’.
The single is co-produced by Trevor “Skatta” Bonnick, lead singer of Inner Circle, Traz Di Jennik and Lydia Campbell, his wife.
“Every year in Jamaica, we say di same thing ’bout crime bad but nothing happening to bring it down. It’s something I feel strongly about an’ it’s how di song came about,” he said.
Traz Di Jennik’s frustration is not limited to murders of which over 700 have been recorded in Jamaica for 2024. White collar crime and indiscipline are other major concerns for his countrymen.
“It’s my first anti-crime song, so I wanted to cover a lot of things, even though di murders are di biggest problem,” he said. ‘Stop di Crime’ has a totally different tone than ‘Party Nice’, his previous single which was aimed at the soca market.
It is also his latest project with Bonnick, former lead singer for The Bloodfire Posse. They first worked together during the 1990s when Traz Di Jennik was known as Alkatraz.
