As he continues to promote his upcoming EP, gospel singer Sone G has released ‘Yahweh’, the second release from that project.
‘Find A Way’, the lead single from the EP, came out in March. On ‘Yahweh’, Sone G goes for a traditional feel popular with Jamaicans from generations past.
“It’s more of a revival, mento, hardcore dancehall vibe. It’s a unique fusion by the renowned DaJourney Production. (Producer) Jason Mighty brought the song to our attention we all loved it and that was it really,” Sone G disclosed.
‘Yahweh’ is one of two songs produced by Toronto-based ‘DaJourney for ‘New Man’, Sone G’s seven-track EP scheduled for release in July.
That mini set features diverse sounds Sone G and his team are banking on to reach an eclectic audience. ‘Yahweh’ marks his first crack at revival/mento, percussive sounds that remain popular with pockets of fans in Jamaica.
“Definitely, this is my first time venturing in these territories. Always been fond of the fusion and always wanted to work with someone as well who understands it well enough to make it work,” he explained.
Originally from rural Clarendon parish in Jamaica, Sone G is typical of neo-gospel acts who experiment with dancehall and pop sounds which appeal to contemporary fans.
He and DaJourney, who is from Kingston, first collaborated in 2020 on the song, ‘Solid Rock’. Last year, their song ‘Sweet Eeh’, won a Sterling Gospel Music Award for Collab of The Year.
