With his first album in the draft stage, singer Denzel Martin is giving listeners a taste of things to come with ‘Bounce with Me’, a song scheduled for release on February 2. It is co-produced by the Chicago-based artist and Delroy “Fatta” Pottinger.
While not giving away much about his pending album, Martin said he wants to reach as wide an audience as possible. For assistance, he reached out to Pottinger, chief engineer at Anchor Recording Studio in Kingston, Jamaica and a producer who has worked with established artists such as Big Mountain and Sanchez.
‘Bounce With Me’ has a dancehall and hip-hop vibe, which was intentional. I wanted to reach a wide range of listeners. Most of the songs for my upcoming album are lovers rock, so I needed to add some variety to the album, and ‘Bounce with Me’ was chosen,” Martin explained.
A graphic designer by profession, he has been recording songs since the late 1980s. At that time, he collaborated with Nelson Miller, best known as the drummer for Burning Spear throughout the 1970s and 1980s.
Even though he retained a passion for music after migrating to Chicago 32 years ago, education took priority shortly after his move to the Windy City. Six years ago, Martin returned to music by releasing ‘Love Song’, and a cover of Lionel Richie’s ‘Hello’. ‘Bounce With Me’ is a teaser to his album which he said will be a mix of pop, R&B, and Afrobeats.
