In celebration of a remarkable career and years dedicated to making a mark in Jamaica’s music scene, Isax Injah, the nomadic Canadian saxophonist, and flutist is gearing up to captivate audiences at Herbie Miller’s Downtown Friday evening jazz session on December 1st.
Attendees are in for a musical treat as Isax Injah promises a performance where the vibrant rhythms of reggae seamlessly intertwine with the soulful melodies of jazz. He plans to showcase his prowess as a talented horn master and will leave an indelible mark on the hearts of music enthusiasts.
ISax’s musical journey reads like a harmonious novel, with each chapter unveiling a new dimension of his artistry. His teenage years saw him sharing stages with Canadian legends like Lighthouse and the Downchild Blues Band, laying the foundation for a career that would transcend genres and geographical boundaries.
However, it was the magnetic pull of Toronto’s Jamaican reggae scene that truly ignited ISax’s musical spirit. Immersed in the deep grooves and open musical environment, he found a welcoming home within the Rastafarian community. This pivotal moment marked the beginning of collaborations with reggae giants like Jackie Mittoo, Dennis Brown, King Jammys, Ken Boothe, and many more.
In 2015, Richie Spice became the catalyst that transported ISax to the heart of Jamaican music. Since then, he has become an integral part of the island’s musical fabric, working with legendary producers such as Clive Hunt, Donovan Germaine, and King Jammys, as well as collaborating with esteemed artists like Queen Ifrica, Mystic Revelation of Rastafari Band, and Alborosie.
ISax’s signature sound has graced recordings by reggae luminaries like Richie Spice, Gregory Isaacs, Tony Rebel, and Lutan Fyah. His horn section work has left an indelible mark on the Canadian reggae scene, collaborating with artists from Nelson Riddle to Big Sugar. His musical voyages have taken him to England, Dominica, Antigua, Japan, and every major city in North America, establishing him as a true musical globetrotter.
Now firmly rooted in Jamaica, ISax continues to evolve his “Jahzz Muzik” sound. His upcoming full-length instrumental CD, scheduled for release in 2024 with the legendary King Jammys, promises to be a testament to his musical growth.
