After 18 months of touring, Trinidadian trio Suns of Dub plan to focus on recording and releasing new songs in 2024.
The artists/sound system operators resumed touring in early 2022 after an enforced break due to Covid-19. Co-founder Ras Jammy says fans can expect a steady stream of fresh material from him and colleagues, Jah Bami and CP.U.
“Music will flow non-stop as we anticipate the long overdue release of our studio compilation album ‘Evolution of Dub’. A New Amapiano and AfroBeat EP from CP.U, ‘Suns Of Dub Meets Sleepy Time Ghost’, a serious exploration into our musical influences featuring various genres produced by Suns Of Dub and our UK partners. As well as many more new live and jungle singles featuring artists like IYAMAH, Daniella Dee, Macka B, Micah Shemiah and more,” he disclosed.
Ras Jammy started Suns Of Dub in 2010 with Jamaican musician Addis Pablo, son of dub legend Augustus Pablo. Addis left the group in 2016 for a solo career and was replaced two years later by CP.U.
Since returning to the road, Suns Of Dub have performed in Serbia, the United Kingdom, Israel, Slovakia, Germany, Switzerland, Italy, Spain, Belgium, The Netherlands and Trinidad and Tobago.
They have also produced songs by Norris Man and Carlton Shepherd (‘Holy Mount Zion’) and Jah Bami (Hold Your Heads Up’). The latter was released in November to mark the 93rd anniversary of the Coronation of Haile Selassie I as Ethiopian emperor.
Ras Jammy credits versatility for making Suns Of Dub a popular live draw, especially in Europe.
“The United Kingdom and Europe are our largest markets, with continued great responses and requests coming from Mexico and South America. Suns Of Dub is primarily known for playing main and dub stage festival and carnival events across Europe, sound system events as well as specially curated sessions of any audience featuring steel pan, percussions, and vinyl records, or live dubbing and remixing. Each performance is unique and delivers a Suns Of Dub experience crafted for each specific event, he said.
