While writing songs for his second album, singjay Chris Da Ambassada was going through a challenging phase. It inspired some of the songs on that set, ‘Place of Change’, which was released in early August.
The gospel act’s first album, ‘New Chapter’, came out in 2018. “The difference between my first and second album is I felt this is my truth from start to finish. It’s a documentation of my story, detailing personal struggles from the past to present. Very personal to me,” said Chris Da Ambassada.
‘Place of Change’ is a joint production between his CDA Records and Dajourney Productions, a company out of Canada. It has 13 songs including ‘Outside’, ‘Break Free’ and ‘Higher Level’, a song with Positive, a Trinidadian artist.
Chris Da Ambassada was born in St. Thomas, eastern Jamaica, but has lived in the United Kingdom for 20 years. In Jamaica, he listened to acts such as Beenie Man, Buju Banton and Bounty Killer, but in 2005 he became a Christian and the message in his music changed. What has not changed is his dancehall delivery. He reports that gospel with a reggae flavor has a following in the UK.
“There is a market for reggae/gospel music in the UK. It combines elements of reggae with Christian lyrics and messages, appealing to both reggae enthusiasts and the religious community. This genre has gained a following among those who appreciate the fusion of these two musical styles and spiritual themes,” said Chris Da Ambassada.
