Afrobeat dancehall artiste Malam Spicey started his music career in 2004 as a member of the popular Afrobeat group The Trybunalz. In 2010 he left the group to launch a successful solo career with the release of the hit single, ‘1005 Naira’, which made him a household name in Nigeria.
“I began my career working alongside BlackFace Naija, Rocksteady, and RasMyke in The Trybunalz. After several wonderful years of recording and performing together I went solo. That’s when I released ‘1005 Naira’ which earned me the title of Afrobeat Dancehall King in Nigeria. This hot single made way for the release of my first album ‘Special Request’, he said.
The Nigerian music star recently teamed up with US/Jamaica-based artiste management and production company Star ReggaeBeat to release a hot dancehall single titled ‘One in a Million’ which was produced by topflight Nigerian producer Catalixx.
“It’s pleasure to work with Star ReggaeBeat, our first project was the ‘One in a Million’ single which was released late last year. Now we’re working on my new EP,” said Malam Spicey.
A huge fan of dancehall music Malam Spicey is looking forward to recording songs with several top dancehall and Afrobeat artistes on his upcoming EP titled ‘TopShatta’.
“I’d love to work with some of my favourite dancehall artistes on this project. It would be a dream come to record songs with Capleton, Beenie Man, Buju Banton, Bounty Killa, Popcaan, Burna Boy, and Davido. My management team is making the links, so I am very positive that it’s going to happen.”
