It’s been four years since singer Causion was diagnosed with Stage 3 colon cancer. The veteran Antiguan artist has weathered the storm and is looking forward to releasing his sixth album in June.
One of the songs from that project is the patriotic ‘Antigua me Come From’, which he co-wrote and co-produced with Maurice Gregory, brother of Papa San and former Third World keyboardist. The track was released in 2022 and has been picked up by the Antigua Tourist Board to promote the country as a travel destination.
Causion also made his acting debut in ‘Deep Blue’, a movie produced by the husband-and-wife team of Howard and Mitzi Allen. He plays Leroy in the film, which premiered in Antigua on March 25. ‘Deep Blue’ addresses environmental issues, a topic the Allens are passionate about. Causion, who is from the town of St. Paul in Antigua, has similar views. “We get so caught up in development that we are killing off a portion of the place that we need for our survival,” he said.
Last year, 55-year-old Causion underwent a marathon surgery for colon cancer in Florida where he has lived since the 1990s. While his recovery has required extensive medical attention, writing, and recording songs and appearing in ‘Deep Blue’, has inspired him to fight even more.
“What I’m trying to do is get my life back on track. I’m in a good place and I thank God for that,” he said. ‘Mission in Progress’ is the name of his upcoming album.
