The ATF Band are promoting ‘Welcome to My Land’, their latest song which presents an optimistic view of Jamaica in challenging times. The self-produced single was released in late September.
According to drummer Stephen Lee, a deliberate effort was made to project Jamaica’s natural attributes such as its rural landscape and beaches, in the video for ‘Welcome to my Land’. He and his colleagues agreed that a feel-good song was necessary given uncertainties posed by the Coronavirus and the country’s frightening crime rate.
“I personally don’t think that Covid has made us more appreciative of our little island as it seems that nowhere is safe anymore. What I do know is that the curfew and the lockdowns have taken a toll on everyone, both financially and mentally,” he said. There have been over 2000 deaths caused by the Coronavirus. In another bloody year, over 1,000 homicides have been recorded in the Caribbean country.
The ATF Band was formed five years ago by keyboardist/vocalist Herbie Harris. Bass player Lyndon Webb and guitarist Courtland White complete the quartet which had a hit song in 2019 with the catchy ‘Yardie’. They released an EP of the same name last year.
