On January 8, 2026, Silk Radio UK hosted a landmark radiothon in support of communities affected by Hurricane Melissa in Jamaica. After careful evaluation to ensure that every contribution served a truly deserving cause, the station directed all proceeds to the students of Dumphries Infant and Basic School in St. James, Jamaica.
While the school’s physical infrastructure — including the roof and essential facilities — required urgent attention, our team discovered an equally pressing need: students whose families were struggling to provide books, uniforms, and basic educational necessities in the aftermath of the hurricane. Addressing these gaps became our immediate priority.
Silk Radio UK is proud to announce that this partnership will not be fleeting. We are formally committing to a second radiothon in early 2027, with the intention of supporting the school in whatever capacity is required. In essence, Dumphries Infant and Basic School will remain our charity of choice until we are confident that the institution and its students are on stable, sustainable footing.
We extend our deepest gratitude to every listener, donor, and supporter who contributed to this mission. Transparency remains central to our ethos; our donors can be assured that their generosity is handled with integrity and directed exactly where it is needed most.
The students, our liaison Ms. Savannah, and the school’s principal Ms. Ann Green have expressed profound appreciation for this vital infusion of goodwill.
We also acknowledge the indispensable work of Vernal Sage, Silk Radio UK’s representative on the ground in Jamaica, whose diligence and insight led us to this worthy institution and ensured the seamless transfer of funds.
Silk Radio UK remains steadfast in its commitment to uplifting communities, fostering resilience, and making meaningful contributions wherever possible.
