Keith and Tex Does it for Love

Veteran harmony duo Keith and Tex have released their latest song, a cover of Bobby Caldwell’s sultry ballad, ‘What You Won’t do For Love’.  Co-produced by Carl “Stereo” Fletcher, Basil “Benbow” Creary and Keith Rowe, their rendition was released in January.

It was Keith’s idea to cover the 1978 blue-eyed soul classic in reggae form.

“It’s one of the songs I’ve always loved. I even went twice to see the artist before he passed on,” said Keith.

Caldwell, who died in 2023, had strong ties to Miami and Jamaicans. He was a regular session musician at producer Henry Stone’s TK Records in that city, during the 1970s.

He was also a close friend of Jamaican singer King Sporty, an influential member of the Miami reggae scene who co-wrote ‘Buffalo Soldier’ with Bob Marley.

Keith and Tex first came to prominence in Jamaica during the 1960s as a rock steady act who recorded mainly for producer Derrick Harriott.  Now based in Tampa and Toronto respectively, they are best known for songs like ‘Stop That Train’ and ‘Don’t Look Back‘.

Keith and Tex are also working on a new album which will be the follow-up to ‘Gun Life’ which was released in 2025.
