Paul Kastick Feels the Whitesnake Love

When Paul Kastick finally decided to record a cover of Whitesnake’s ‘Is This Love’ in 2024, it was almost 40 years since he first heard the British rock band’s classic power ballad. Besides doing it in reggae, he wanted to make another change.

The drummer/singer brought in singer Cen’C Love to add a verse in place of the signature guitar solo. She did just that and the song was released in August by Kastick’s Groove Galore Muzik.

“I really wanted to do something different instead of the guitar solo. She came up with that verse and I was totally blown away,” he said.

Kastick, who has toured as a drummer with Shaggy, Sean Paul, Diana King, Big Mountain and Maxi Priest, first met Cen’C Love in 2017. Their cover of ‘Is This Love’ is also the first time they worked together.

From Montego Bay, Kastick developed a love for rock music during the early days of MTV in the 1980s. While playing in bands in hotels on Jamaica’s north coast, he was given a cassette of Whitesnake’s self-titled 1987 album by a tourist; that set was driven by ‘Is This Love’ and ‘Here I Go Again’, another monster hit.

In 2023, Kastick made his lead singer debut with a cover of Steely Dan’s ‘Night by Night’, which is one of the 15 songs on ‘My Reggae Rockin’ Journey Vol 1’, his first album. It contains reggae covers of ‘Here I Go Again’ and ‘Every Rose Has its Thorn’ by Poison.
