In a musical landscape brimming with talent, few newcomers have managed to generate the buzz that Tashina McKenzie, affectionately known as Tashina, has stirred. With powerful singles like “Concern Citizen” featuring Queen Ifrica and “Should I” with reggae luminary Sizzla, Tashina has made it crystal clear—she is no fleeting voice. She’s here to stay.
Blessed with an unmistakable blend of strong vocals, genre-bending versatility, and the kind of lyrical depth that demands replay, Tashina is quickly proving she’s a force to be reckoned with in reggae music. Her songs are more than entertainment—they’re testimony. Drawing inspiration from reggae icons while infusing flavors of hip hop, dancehall, R&B, and Afrobeat, her sound is fresh, relatable, and resonant.
Born in St. Andrew, Jamaica, to devout Christian parents, Tashina’s love for music took root early. Her time at Wolmer’s High School for Girls and later St. Andrew Technical High served as a launchpad for her performance prowess. From writing school anthems to commanding local stages, her talent couldn’t be contained. Talent competitions became her training ground—JCDC Festivals, Magnum Kings and Queens of Dancehall, and even the prestigious Sting stage. Each one sharpened her delivery and deepened her connection with audiences.
It was in 2007, after winning Miss Kingston 11—where she showcased her vocal talent—that the shift truly began. Tashina wasn’t just performing anymore; she was becoming a brand. That same year she took a brave step into Rising Stars, igniting her national recognition. By 2015, after appearances in major competitions and festivals, it was clear she had the momentum of a seasoned artist.
While many artists rely solely on performance, Tashina brought more to the table—education. With a Law degree from the University College of the Caribbean and studies in stenography from the Justice Training Institute, she has built a safety net grounded in discipline. It’s this rare mix of artistry and intellect that continues to shape her path.
Her singles “Ghetto Lives Matter” and “Best Touch Ever” with Vybz Kartel added dancehall flair to her catalog and showcased her growing versatility. Now working under U.S.-based JB Productions and the UK’s Big D Productions, Tashina is cultivating a global footprint, one single at a time.
With the endorsement of reggae heavyweights and the unshakable support of a rapidly growing fanbase, she’s eyeing more collaborations, more stages, and yes—international awards. Whether it’s the heat of her conscious lyrics, the emotional pulse of her R&B tone, or her commanding stage presence, Tashina’s trajectory points due north.
Her mission? “I just want to make my mark and stand out and also to carry on the music of our nation to international spaces,” she says.
And with every beat, lyric, and headline she earns—she’s doing just that.
