While they have been together personally and professionally for over 30 years, Shango Trex and StarFyah never released a song together. ‘Give My Heart’, their debut collaboration, is done as Stashang. It will be released on March 28.
It is the lead track from the duo’s projected album which they plan to release in late 2025. According to Shango Trex, he and his wife worked at the same recording studio in Tokyo, Japan and on the tourism circuit in their native Jamaica but never made it official on record. “The timing is perfect. It’s just a preview of things to come,” he said.
Stashang are based in New York where they maintain their musical vibe while holding down nine-to-five jobs. They made the decision last year to take that bond one step further by cutting a series of songs together. ‘Give My Heart’ is the manifestation of those plans.
While working in Jamaica’s north coast hotels helped put the edge on their live performance, Shango Trex also has high marks for living in Japan which has a thriving reggae scene. “Living there is an exposure to a different way of life. It gave us a deep appreciation for other cultures and broadened our approach to music production,” he said.
Shango Trex made his name as a member of Freemynz, which also included Catapila. They recorded several songs for producers Andre “GC” Fennell and Steven “Lenky” Marsden.
