Ambelique is all the rage in South Florida and tri-state reggae circles. His album, ‘Blind Spot’, is number one for the second straight week on the Foundation Radio Network Chart which covers New York, Connecticut and New Jersey.
‘I’m Thankful’, one of the songs from that Willie Lindo-produced set, is number one on the South Florida Reggae Chart. ‘Blind Spot’, Ambelique’s ninth album, was released last November by Lindo’s Heavy Beat Records.
Clinton Lindsay, the respected Jamaican broadcaster, compiles those charts.
‘Blind Spot’ came out 20 years after ‘Let’s Take a Chance’, Ambelique’s previous album. It contains a cover of American soul singer Bobby Blue Bland’s ‘Ain’t No Love in The Heart of The City’ which also did well in South Florida.
While he has been recording music since the 1980s, Ambelique’s first album was released during the late 1990s. That set, ‘Ambelique Sings the Classics’, was produced by Sly and Robbie and includes covers of Lionel Richie’s ‘Penny Lover’ and ‘La Bamba’, originally done by Richie Valens.
For ‘Blind Spot’, he worked with Lindo, a prolific session guitarist who played on timeless songs including ‘Everything I Own’ by Ken Boothe and ‘Dat’ by Pluto Shervington during the 1970s. He also produced a number of hit singles such as Dennis Brown’s ‘Inseparable’ and ‘What One Dance Can Do’ by Beres Hammond.
